In my role leading Fujitsu’s Global Delivery Group, I believe that making our organization more diverse and inclusive is critical for our business success. It’s something that I am personally passionate about and it’s a shared imperative for Fujitsu, led by commitment from President Tokita.
We want to ensure that Fujitsu is a responsible business that reflects the diversity of our world, and the societies in which we operate. This means developing an inclusive culture where everyone can be completely themselves.
This is not only the right thing to do – it also benefits our business. The evidence shows that inclusive teams are powerful; they are more innovative, adapt better to change, and make businesses more competitive.
I am delighted to share with you that I have gladly accepted a voluntary position as Fujitsu's Global LGBT+ Executive Sponsor.
LGBT+ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender plus all other identities related to an individual's sexual orientation and gender identity. Around the World, the LGBT+ community faces marginalisation, discrimination, and sometimes violence for being who they are; this discrimination is not acceptable. It is imperative that within Fujitsu, we create an inclusive culture where our LGBT+ colleagues can be completely themselves, free from fear of discrimination.
I am, and always have been, a deeply passionate ally to the LGBT+ community, meaning that I support LGBT+ people and causes, advocate for them, and take every opportunity to promote equality by standing up and speaking out in support. Visible allies are incredibly important for the advancement of LGBT+ causes, so I ask all of you to join me in becoming an ally to your LGBT+ colleagues.
Progress so far
Fujitsu is moving in the right direction.
In June 2018, Fujitsu became the first Japanese company to publicly support the UN LGBTI Standards, and in 2019, Fujitsu attended more LGBT+ Pride events around the world than ever before, such as: Tokyo, Japan; London, UK; Birmingham, UK; Black Pride, UK; Bi Pride, UK; Transgender Pride, UK; Dallas, USA; Silicon Valley, USA; Lisbon, Portugal, and several others.
The photos below show some of our fantastic participants at pride events in 2018 and 2019.
I am proud to share that we are globally aligning and incorporating all of our LGBT+ networks, starting with a new name: Fujitsu Pride.
This revitalized global network will allow colleagues from around the World to share collateral, work collaboratively together, and build awareness. These changes make Fujitsu Pride our first globally-aligned Diversity & Inclusion employee network. The network has been established by passionate employees who volunteer their time to support this initiative.
As Fujitsu's Global LGBT+ Executive Sponsor, I am committed to continuing our progress towards a working environment where all our people can be themselves. I look forward to sharing further updates!
