As the holiday season approaches, it seems like now is a good time to take a look back over the past year and take stock. We’ve seen a lot of changes in 2017 and experienced a lot of growth as well. We also welcomed a new member into the Fujitsu server family, the Fujitsu SPARC M12. So in this blog, we’re going to look back at our 2017 highlights to give us a sense of where we’ve been over the past 12 months, which will give you a sense of where we’re going in the future.
Feel the Need for Speed?
In our first blog of 2017, we talked about speed. Why customers need it, how they’re using it, and how Fujitsu is providing it with the Fujitsu M10. More specifically, we discussed how customers can turbocharge their data base queries with the Fujitsu M10 by taking advantage of the Fujitsu SPARC 64 X/X+ processor Software on Chip feature. Why Threads Count
We took a deep dive into the SPARC64 X+ processor and discussed how multithreading allows it to produce such great application performance. We talked about SMT (Simultaneous Multi-Threading) and how it’s used to allow the Fujitsu M10 system to process 32 program steps with each and every clock cycle. Fujitsu SPARC M12 Introduction
We introduced the brand new Fujitsu SPARC M12 server early this year. We welcomed it into the family with a high-level description of the new technology, the system features, system performance, and configurations. We also discussed how the new system will help minimize software licensing costs for our customers – while still providing more performance than existing systems. What’s in a Benchmark?
This time, we took a comprehensive look at two of the leading benchmarks in the industry: SPEC_CPU2006 and SPEC_FP2006. This is a very interesting look at all of the component programs that go into these highly regarded benchmarks. One of the reasons we decided to do a deep dive on these benchmarks is because the Fujitsu SPARC M12 captured the highest score on both of these benchmarks soon after the system was introduced. Why Less is Sometimes More
Is it true that less is more? We took on common misconceptions about processor cores and their value. Many automatically believe that the more cores on a processor, the better. In this blog we explain how in the case of the SPARC64 XII, fewer cores give customers greater application performance, more throughput, and lower cost of ownership when it comes to software licenses. Tiny Bubbles Take Away the Heat
Heat is the enemy of electronic components. Too much heat and components like CPUs slow down and, if there’s way too much heat, they’ll eventually fail. In this blog we discuss different approaches to keeping CPUs cool and feature Fujitsu’s innovative Vapor and Liquid Loop Cooling (VLLC). It’s a two-phase cooling approach that is highly sophisticated and effective, yet requires no customer maintenance or intervention.
