Easy, Flexible Control of Your Virtualized Datacenter with VDCF

Do you have any of these issues in your data center?

  • Managing a diverse system environment has become increasingly complex due to various patch levels and disk and network configurations.
  • Higher than desired levels of application outages due to system failures.
  • Challenges in deploying applications as a result of differences in dev, test and production environments.

I have good news if you’re looking for an easy way to manage your virtualized Solaris environment. JomaSoft’s VDCF (Virtual Datacenter Cloud Framework) solution is now available for Fujitsu M10 servers. I’m also happy to report that JomaSoft has been impressed by the Fujitsu M10 performance (no surprise there, but nice to have another testimonial)!

“VDCF is JomaSoft’s management solution for creating, migrating, patching and monitoring Oracle Solaris environments. As part of the verification of VDCF on the Fujitsu M10 SPARC Server, we compared the performance results of our standard database queries. The queries were from a traditional single-threaded workload. We ran VDCF in a single core LDom.

“On the Fujitsu M10 server we see the best results of any system tested so far.

JomaSoft views the Fujitsu M10 SPARC systems as ideal platforms for single-threaded workloads. – Marcel Hofstetter, CEO, JomaSoft

VDCF allows you to build and maintain a consistent environment, with the same patch and package levels across your physical and virtual systems. By monitoring both hardware resources and OS levels, problems are addressed before application-level issues arise. For high availability, failover of zones and logical domains (Oracle VM Server for SPARC) to other systems is easily handled.

In a nutshell, with VDCF on Fujitsu M10 servers, you can save time, deploy faster, and avoid errors.

VDCF is a platform management framework for the Oracle Solaris Operating System that is used to set up and maintain a virtualized Solaris-based data center, including management of servers, containers, logical domains, the Solaris OS and application deployment. VDCF itself is deployed in minutes and managed easily from a centralized management server. The intuitive VDCF CLI makes it easy for system administrators to integrate once complex steps into their own operational procedures. VDCF also allows for manual or automatic server migration and failover (as illustrated in the figure below) for improved availability and performance.

VDCF supports failover and migration between different hardware systems in the data center. Migrate and fail over domains and zones between Fujitsu M10 servers, and upgrade virtualized environments dynamically. The VDCF management server itself can also be configured for failover for enhanced reliability.

The VDCF solution on the Fujitsu M10 servers provides real business benefits with:

  • Better operational control
  • Lower capital costs through improved efficiency
  • Higher system resource utilization
  • Ability to support more software environments
  • Faster deployment of virtual machines
  • Fewer operational errors
  • Configurations saved for reuse
  • Both containers and logical domains supported from a common interface

VDCF is utilized by customers in finance, government, telco and other industries, and by customers with anywhere from a few servers to hundreds of systems. VDCF 5.7 for Solaris 10 and Solaris 11.1 through 11.3 is available now for Fujitsu M10 servers. You can learn more about VDCF at https://www.jomasoft.ch/products/VDCF/
