How to design Corporate Digital Responsibility – and how to fill this vision with life

Poverty, lack of food and water, climate change, natural disasters, imbalances in social systems and infrastructures, education and health deficits, aging societies, a growing world population. Nowadays, we are faced with major challenges. Information and communication technologies (ICT) can play a key role in solving these critical problems – if solutions are developed and used responsibly. Corporate responsibility in the digital world

Digital technologies in themselves are neither good nor bad. It depends on what they are developed for, how they are used – and by whom. Fujitsu outlines its ideas about the innovative power of digital technologies in the Fujitsu Technology and Service Vision. The central motif is: Human Centric Innovation. New technologies must be beneficial and useful for people. ICT should help to increase security, support economic growth, prosperity and sustainable development. With this, Fujitsu aims to support the development of a Human Centric Intelligent Society – an intelligent society based on people.

An example: healthcare

We all want to enjoy a high quality of life, be healthy and to live long. By connecting services across a wide range of sectors and industries, this will be more achievable than ever before. Doctors and employees from various healthcare facilities will be able to access and to share digital data. The data could be combined and analyzed in real–time with other information. Last but not least: Big Data analysis – e.g. in cancer research – help us, to quickly and reliably analyze large and complex biomedical data records. This leads to high quality medical treatment and to better recovery of the patient. Here it becomes clear that digitization creates new values in the sense of a Human Centric Intelligent Society.

From vision to action

Today, we are balancing on a “digital tightrope”: Will digitization lead to a more sustainable society, reduced consumption of resources and greater prosperity? Or, will we be the victims of digital blackmail, cyber bullying or economic crime? Corporate Digital Responsibility aims to reduce tensions between chances and risks. The secret of success is to be aware of the opportunities digitalization holds – while knowing about its perils at the same time.
