Dr. Draeger was born 1960 in Heilbronn, Germany. 1981-1989 he studied physics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and graduated with a diploma. After that he continued as a graduate student at TUM and received a Dr. rer. nat in theoretical physics in 1994.

Applying some of his knowledge to everyday phenomena, he then worked for a while as researcher at the institute of physics of TUM in Weihenstephan, mainly on the topic of gushing in beer.

In 1995 he joined Siemens Nixdorf as a systems engineer, working on remote control and diagnosis software, later as a test engineer for graphics cards, hard disks and software loads. Special tasks included regression testing of a voice recognition system and an in-depth analysis of field errors.

In 1998 he moved to the US, joining the Silicon Valley Office of Siemens Nixdorf in San Jose, later Fujitsu Siemens Computers in Milpitas. Here activities ranged from product management for a high-end graphics card to support tasks for the CELSIUS workstation team (ISV certifications and benchmarks). A monthly newsletter for the colleagues in Germany provided information about the computer graphics market in the US.

From 2001 to 2002 Markus Draeger was working in the platform technology group of the strategic alliances team and focused on Linux.

From 2003, Markus Draeger worked in the Technology Office of Fujitsu Siemens Computers and then Fujitsu Technology Solutions, evaluating new technologies and leading innovation projects. After some time in the storage and server business lines, he joined Rolf Kleinwächters innovation team in 2011, supporting various innovation activities.

Married, with two children, Dr. Draeger lives near Munich, Germany.
